Our society is constantly churning out information. There’s nothing particularly new in thinking of all that data as a stream, but the metaphor has taken on particular urgency as our culture has grown increasingly digital, Web-connected and platform-based. There have never been quite so many streams, shifting quite so treacherously.
Nor, it seems, have we ever been so aware of the complexity involved in navigating them. One property of streams worth noting: If you let them, they’ll sweep you right past where you intended to go.
Don’t come here looking for tech enthusiast news or “life hacks.” There are already a number of sites that report on the industry or attack the subject of information technology from the angle of productivity. Upstreamist is about more than coping with, or succeeding on the strength of, those technologies. The goal is not to weather the tide or go with the flow, but rather to find ways of navigating those streams that let us to travel toward a culture worth having.
